The orbital lobotomy was a surgery that gained popularity in the late 1940s as a way of treating the most dangerous mentally ill patients in asylums across the country, in fact it won a Nobel Prize for physiology in 1949. But within less than a decade, it was a scorned procedure that was banned in most places. How did it come about? Why was it banned?
